Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari and Dr.Kalidindi Suryanarayana Raju Arts and Science College has been established in 1974 by the S.V.K.P Arts and Science College Association with the objective of bringing Technical, Scientific and Arts and Commerce Education to the doorsteps of the rural population of the area. Dr.K.S.Raju’s name has been included in the name of the college as a mark of respect to the dedicated service rendered by him in the development of the college.
In this culturally and agriculturally rich town, the college, aptly named after the presiding deity, Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari was the hope and aspiration of the people. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Sri Vanka Satyanarayana, local M.L.A., and Sri Kotla Venkatramayya, the founder President of the college who has made a name for himself as one ready to champion public causes as and when they arise.
The college is situated in 18 acres of land on the right bank of the Nidadavole-Narasapur canal in Penugonda, West Godavari District. Penugonda is 20 Kms from Tanuku. Rajahmundry, a historical and cultural town is about 55 kms from Penugonda.
The growth of the college is reflected in the increase in the student enrollment figures of about 300 in 1974 to 1957 at present. The college has spacious RCC buildings to accommodate the class rooms and laboratories. The Management, Principal, teaching, non-teaching staff and the students of the college work towards the mission of “VAKBHUSHANAM BHUSHANAM” as epitomized in the logo of the college.
S.V.K.P and Dr.K.S.Raju Arts and Science College was established on 04/8/1974. The University granted affiliation at UG level for both 1st and 2nd year B.A., and B.Com in the year of inception itself based on the Cabinet Resolution of Government of Andhra Pradesh. During the year 1978, B.Sc was introduced with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Botany, Zoology, Chemistry. B.Sc Electronics was introduced in the year 1984. Later as part of introduction of restructured programmes, Computer Science at UG level, for the first time in the state of Andhra Pradesh was introduced in the year 1986.
PG programmes of Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A) was introduced in 1992-93, Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) in 1993, , Master of Arts (M.A)(Political Science) in 1995, This college has achieved its endeavor of bringing Higher Education closer to the rural people. Master of Science (M.Sc)(Organic Chemistry) and Master of Science (Zoology) were introduced from 2005.
The college has in its possession nearly 18 acres of land with permanent buildings and spacious play grounds encircled by a strong compound wall. The landscape garden provides a feast to the eyes. The strength of the students as on today is 1957, which shows constant increase since the inception of the institution. 30% of the total strength forms the girl students. Non-Resident center for girls is provided.
